Indian School Seeing Construction Boom
by AP, The Associated Press

Anadarko, Okla. (AP) _ While most schools in Oklahoma are struggling financially, Riverside Indian School is experiencing financial prosperity.

The nation's oldest federally run American Indian boarding school is now seeing the results of the $19.1 million in federal money it received last year.

Enrollment is climbing at the 131-year-old facility, which has a new $4.2 million gymnasium that features four classrooms, a weight room, storage areas and a dressing room.

"Back when I first came here to this school, there was a different feeling," Superintendent Don Sims said. "Kids were just skating by. Now every student is thinking about a higher education, regardless of their expectations."
