The America Connects Consortium AT&T Young Leaders Program |
|||

The America Connects Consortium, YouthNOISE, YouthLearn and the AT&T Foundation are pleased to announce the second year of the AT&T Young Leaders program. We know that there are extraordinary young people active in community technology centers (CTCs) who are using technology to express themselves, seek out new ideas, develop artistic skills, and contribute to their communities. ACC is excited to build upon the success of last year's Young Leader's program with an expanded program and new partners. We would like to recognize and work with up to 18 young people in grades 9 through 12 who are Young Leaders within their CTCs. Young Leaders demonstrate qualities such as:
Young Leaders will participate in a structured program of leadership activities over a 6 month period beginning in September 2002, culminating in an online panel on Youth as Leaders in February 2003. A Young Leaders conference will be held in Washington, D.C. in early October, and all other activities will take place at the Young Leader's home community technology center. In addition, each Young Leader will work with a coach from his or her CTC who will attend the conference, benefit from professional development activities led by YouthLearn, and interact with fellow coaches while working with the Young Leaders. The Native American History and Genealogy Conference |

The Native American History and Genealogy Conference, sponsored by the Friends of the Oklahoma Historical Society Archives and the Tulsa Library's genealogy department, will be Sept. 27-28 at Ramada Inn, 8181 E Skelly Drive, Tulsa. Events for Sept. 27 will include Kathy Huber's lecture "Discovering Your Native American Ancestors at the Schusterman-Benson Library." Featured speaker for Sept. 28 will be Cherokee Chief Chad Smith. His topic will be "History as the Foundation for Strategy." Other conference speakers include Kent Carter, Jack Baker, Sharron Standifer Ashton, Daniel Littlefield, Sammie Dennison- Harmon, Joyce Bear and William Welge. Lecture topics include: "The Dawes Rolls," "Cherokee Indian Genealogical Sources," "Solving Family Traditions of Indian Ancestry," "Documenting Contemporary Tribal Communities," "White Hair Learning Resource Center and Osage Genealogy," "Choctaw- Chickasaw Genealogical Sources," "Who are the Creek? A Brief History and Genealogy Reference to the Muscogee People," "American Indian Records: Archives Oklahoma Historical Society" and "Continuing the Legacy."
