About Sharon
Burch
Sharon was raised in the traditional Navajo
culture in New Mexico and spoke only Navajo until she began school.
After high school in California, she attended Navajo Community College
in Tsaile, Arizona and later the University of New Mexico. Sharon
Burch's music is the contemporary expression of traditional Navajo
ways and living. Many of Sharon's songs are in the beautiful Navajo
language and capture the sacredness of Mother Earth and Father Sun
and the importance of family and place to the Diné.

Black
Eagle
Black Eagle is from the Pueblo of Jemez in
New Mexico. The group originated in 1989 under the leadership of Malcom
Yepa, after a family trip to Lame Deer, Montana. While in Lame Deer,
Malcom was influenced by a family friend, Jimmy Little Coyote, who
explained to him, the protocol and ways of the Powwow world. Malcom
brought back to Jemez the knowledge given to him and together with
his brother David Jr., gathered together a group of cousins and formed
the group Black Eagle.

Indigenous Rocks
Incendiary guitar, soulful vocals, house-shaking
rhythms - this is the real deal, this is the band Indigenous. Their
stylistic roots reach back to America's earliest form, the blues;
they can trace their personal roots back even further. A family of
musicians - two brothers, sister and cousin - they have played together
as long as they can remember. Members of the Nakota Nation, Mato Nanji,
Pte, Horse and Wanbdi are all still in their early twenties - but
they play with the skill and tested fire of significantly older souls

R.Carlos Nakai
To become the world's premier Native American flutist, R. Carlos Nakai
had to rely more on research and innovation and less on his Navajo-Ute
heritage. While the Diné had a strong flute-playing tradition,
it was lost when they migrated from the Northwest Plains of Canada
to the Southwest over five centuries ago. While Nakai may not have
been "born to the flute," it was curiosity about his heritage
that led him to it.

Robert Mirabal Official Site
Robert Mirabal is one of the leaders of the
Native American musical renaissance. Mirabal's style is less commercial
than many of his contemporaries, building his melodies on the rituals
that have surrounded him all of his life at Taos Pueblo in New Mexico,
where he was born and still resides. "My culture doesn't allow
me to record anything traditional," Mirabal said. "But my
music is informed by the ceremonial music that I've heard all of my
life. What I create comes out of my body and soul, in a desire to
take care of the spirits of the earth."

Website
Susan Aglukark is an artist that bridges
two worlds. On her new album This Child, the first she has recorded
for EMI Music Canada, she intertwines traditional Inuk chants with
contemporary pop melodies. While Susan's music embraces the time-honoured
rituals and values of her Inuit forefathers, she is also not afraid
to face the tough social realities of life in today's far North. Her
clear warm voice touches listeners with sensitive message-laden songs,
sung in English as well as her native tongue Inuktitut.
